Order seeds ready for sowing next year.

Sow giant onions on boxing day this is the traditional time to sow onoin to get giant onions

Plant bare rooted roses if the soil not to wet.

If buying a real christmas tree once got it home cut about 1 inch off the bottom of the trunk and put into a bucket of water and keep outdoors until it is ready to be brought inside,, once inside make sure the stand can hold water and keep it topped up as the water will help with reduce needle drop.

               THINGS TO DO IN NOVEMBER

 

If the weather stays mild lawns will keep growing so run the mower over them on a high setting.

Plant bare rooted fruit bushes and fruit trees.

Finish off planting spring bulbs.

Rough dig vegetable plots and add manure and leave over winter so the weather can break it down to give you a good start in the spring.

Keep clearing fallen leaves.

Summer bedding plants will be coming to an end so will need taking out.

Plant spring flowering bulbs and also winter flowering pansies can be planted.

The lawns should start to slow down in growth so you can carry out autumn maintenance on them.

Leaves will be starting to fall off trees, collect them up and put them in compost heap.

Start winter digging and adding manure on the veg plot.

                                                     THINGS TO DO IN SEPTEMBER

 

Keep harvesting the rest of the summer vegetables.

Start to think where you would want to plant spring bulbs.

Carry on dead-heading roses, summer bedding and dahlias

Mow lawns till the grass slows down in growth.

                                                    THING TO DO IN AUGUST

Keep fruit , veg and bedding plants well watered in dry weather.

If lawns start to go brown stop mowing until the lawn is green and growing again this will happen after we had plenty of rainfull.

Keep beds and borders weeded this will stop them taking up water from the soil which the plants need.

Keep picking fruit and vegetables this will allow more fruit and vegetables to produce.

Keep all fruit and vegetables well watered and give them a liquid feed to give them a boost.

 

Keep lawns mowed but if there start to get brown ease off the mowing and give them a good water. this will help them look green and lush again.

 

Prune climbers take off unwanted shoots and tie in to the climbing plant surpport.

 

Keep beds and borders weed free as this will take up water from the soil.

                                                    THINGS TO DO IN JUNE

 

Mow lawns regularly, this will help keep lawn weeds down and give a nice appearance to your lawn and to finish off a lawn trim the edges with lawn edgers.

 

Sow wallflowers in seed trays or in the flower border this will give you a nice display in the spring time.

 

Keep dead heading all your flowering plants eg roses dahlias, this will then provide more energy to the plant to produce more flowers.

 

Keep all vegetables and soft fruit well watered in dry spells.

                                                         THINGS TO DO IN MAY

Plant out summer bedding eg, marigolds , busy Lizzie's , dahlias , petunias , Make sure frosts have ended before doing so.

 

Plant out runner beans , pumpkins , marrows , cucumbers and courgettes.

 

Keep making sowings of carrots , spring onions , radishes ,   beetroot , lettuce and rocket.

 

Give lawns with a summer feed to give them a boost through the summer months.

 

Keep hedges trimmed to give them a nice and tidy appearance.

Plant out second early potatoes and later in the month plant main crop potatoes.

 

Sow carrots, beetroot, spring onions, cabbages, Brussels sprouts and cauliflowers.

 

Pot up tomato seedlings into bigger pots and keep undercover.

 

Keep lawns regularly mowed

 

Give lawns a treatment of lawn weed and feed, this will give your lawn a boost ready for the summer.

                                              THINGS TO DO IN MARCH

 

Plant first early potatoes make sure they have chits(shoots) on them when planting as this will give them a head start.

 

Finish off any pruning which was not carried out in the winter eg apples and pear trees,this needs to be carried out before they start to burst into growth

 

Sow tomato seeds in fresh compost and put in a warm place like a window sill or heated propagator.

 

Lawns can be given there first cut if its dry,always do the first cut with the cutting blade on a high setting as you only want to clip the top of the grass and then lower the blade when you next cut the lawn.

                                                  THINGS TO DO IN FEBRUARY

 

Check spring bulbs and see if any have pushed up, if so gently push them back into the soil.

Have a look through your seeds to make sure you have all that is required for sowing in the months ahead, and arrange your seeds in a sowing order so you know when to sow each month.

Wash pots and seed trays in hot water and a little disinfectant to kill unwanted bacteria.

Buy fesh compost ready for seed sowing etc, If you have any old compost put onto beds and borders to improve soil. (its always best to use fresh compost when seed sowing)

Check any plants that have been fleeced over the winter to protect them, making sure they are completely coverd and protected from the cold weather.

SOW ONION AND LEEK SEEDS AND KEEP IN PROPAGATOR IN A GREENHOUSE OR IF NOT ON THE WINDOWSILL.

 BUY SEED POTATOES AND CHIT FIRST EARLIES,  TO CHIT POTATOES SET THEM OUT IN A TRAY WITH THE EYES UPPER MOST,THE EYES WILL SHOOT AND GIVES THEM A HEAD START WHEN PLANTED,ONCE IN TRAYS PLACE IN LIGHT,FROST FREE POSITION.

PLANT FRUIT TREES WHEN PLANTING ADD SOME COMPOST TO THE SOIL THIS WILL GIVE THEM A GOOD START.

KEEP OFF LAWNS AND BORDERS IF WET OR FROZEN, IT CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD IF YOU DO.

FINISH ANY WINTER DIGGING IF NOT DONE BY NOW,  THIS WILL ALLOW TIME FOR THE WEATHER TO BREAK IT DOWN READY FOR SOWING OR PLANTING.
